Cricket Australia launch ball-tampering investigation


Cricket Australia (CA) will not make a decision about the future of Steve Smith’s captaincy until it completes a probe into stunning ball-tampering revelations that have plunged the Test team into crisis, CEO James Sutherland said.

However, former players and pundits have demanded Smith give up the captaincy for “blatant cheating” in the wake of the revelations during the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town.

Agbofodoh, who is one of the highest ranking chiefs in Uvwie Kingdom, was arrested on June 17, 2016 and was later arraigned in court for murder.

Leading Senegalese politician Khalifa Sall was handed a five-year jail term for fraud on Friday, a sentence that will rule him out of presidential elections due next February.

Sall, 62, who is mayor of Dakar, had denied the charges against him as politically motivated.

He had been accused of fraudulent use of public funds, for which he was also fined five million CFA francs (7,625 euros).

Police issue licences to 200 firearms holders in Kebbi


The Police Command in Kebbi has issued licences to 200 legal firearms holders in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Kabiru, told newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Friday that the gesture was to curb proliferation of illegal firearms and ammunition throughout the state.

Kabiru said the exercise was also in compliance with the full enforcement of the Firearms Act, mopping-up and recovery of all prohibited firearms.

China busts smugglers whose drones snuck $79.8 million worth of iPhones to mainland


Customs officers in southern China’s technology hub Shenzhen busted a group of criminals using drones to smuggle 500 million yuan ($79.8 million) worth of smartphones from Hong Kong to Shenzhen, the official Legal Daily reported on Friday.

Authorities arrested 26 suspects who used drones to fly two 200-meter (660-feet) cables between Hong Kong and the mainland to transport refurbished iPhones with a total value of 500 million yuan, the paper said in a report on the crackdown by Shenzhen and Hong Kong customs.
