2 Nigerian Students Arrested With N48m Worth Of Fake Drugs In Philippine


Two Nigerian students have been arrested with 500 grams of shabu and counterfeit drugs amounting to P2.5 million (about N48m), following an entrapment operation in Bacoor, Cavite, on Friday. According to ABS, the suspects Agu Austin Chukwuebuka and Nkwocha Chimaobi were arrested after they sold 11 sachets of suspected shabu stashed in electronic adaptors to an undercover agent.

The Medical Director of St. John Specialist Hospital, Okota, Lagos, Dr Victor Unang has dragged his former auxiliary nurse, Juliet Nweke, 22, before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly accusing him falsely of raping her and attempting to extort the sum of N3m from him.

Unang also accused the nurse of threatening to set his hospital ablaze if he failed to pay her the money within a reasonable time.

Three men sentenced to death for armed robbery, rape


An Abeokuta High Court on Thursday sentenced three men to death by hanging for armed robbery, conspiracy and rape.

A fourth accused, Oguntolu Oludare, got 10 years imprisonment for receiving stolen goods.

The judge, Adetokunbo Majekodumi, sentenced Abdulrasak Moshood, Sakiru Osunmuyiwa and Azeez Olonade to death.

The court terminated the union after the petitioner, Mr. Gbeminiyi Adeyiga, 88, had insisted that he would no longer condone the infidelity of his wife, Sekinat.

Adeyiga had pleaded with the court to dissolve the marriage forthwith, citing his wife’s unbridled promiscuity, lack of care and battery.

32 Killed In Kogi By Suspected ‘Herdsmen’ – Senator


The person representing Kogi East in the Senate, Atai Aidoko, has reported an onslaught by suspected ‘Fulani herdsmen’ which, he said, claimed 32 lives in two local governments in Kogi State to the Senate.

Mr. Aidoko said 20 people were killed in Dekina Local Government Area, 12 in Omala while another five were maimed in the two areas.

The House of Representatives resolved on Thursday that having passed a vote of no confidence in the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, it would no longer accord him the recognition of addressing him as ‘honorable minister.”

The lawmakers also noted that in other climes, passing a vote of no confidence in a minister was enough grounds for the President to sack him, adding that the House did not need to stress it.

Senate decries killings in the country


The Senate on Thursday decried spate of violence in the country and urged the Federal Government to deploy security agencies to Kogi to forestall alleged killing of people by suspected herdsmen.

Specifically, the upper chamber said that the security machinery should be sent to Omale and Dekina Local Government Areas in the state.

Reps order probe into N20trn unremitted stamp duties


The House of Representatives has ordered an investigation into the N20tn said to have been collected as stamp duty between April 2013 and March 2017, but which was not remitted to the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation.

The House said the money was held by the receiving banks, which had failed to remit it through the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System.

Chief Justice Sacked Over Birth Date Forgery


Nepal has sacked its controversial chief justice Gopal Parajuli following accusation that he faked his date of birth to remain in office.

According to media reports, Parajuli apparently turned 65 several months ago.

Parajuli, who succeeded Nepal’s first female chief justice eight month ago, accused the country’s leading newspaper of contempt of court in February after the daily published a report detailing a birth date discrepancy in his academic records.

Man impregnates his 14 years old daughter in Ikotun, arrested


A 40-year old man, Dominic Johnson, has been arrested for impregnating his 14-year old daughter.
The incident happened at Onitire Avenue in Abaranje area of Ikotun, Lagos.

The daughter has now given birth to a girl and they were brought before the Ikeja Magistrates court when Johnson was arraigned on Wednesday.

A Nigerian stowaway has stated that he would do anything to travel out of the country. This is coming after operatives of the Nigeria Immigration service arrested nine Nigerian youths and a national of Niger Republic on board two Europe-bound vessels.

The National Judicial Council said on Thursday that it had recommended the earlier suspended Chief Judge of Abia State, Justice Theresa Uzokwe, and Justice Obisike Oji, who had a brief stint as the Acting Chief Judge of the state for compulsory retirement.

The NJC also said in a statement by its Director, Information, Mr. Soji Oye, that it had set up committees to probe an unnamed Justice of the Supreme Court and Chief Judges of two states.

Factory Worker ‘Rapes’ Colleague At Knife-Point


The Police in Lagos yesterday arraigned a 21-year-old factory worker, Timothy Nwaokema, at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping his co-worker at knife-point.

The accused is standing trial before Magistrate B.O Osunsanya, on a charge of rape, to which he pleaded ‘not guilty’.

Emirates crew member jumps out of plane


One of the crew members of an Emirates Airlines aircraft due to depart Uganda’s Entebbe International Airport has sustained life-threatening injuries after jumping off the emergency door.

The Flight – EK 730 had just delivered passengers to Entebbe on Wednesday and was preparing to load others passengers for Dubai when the incident happened.

NERC to enforce new metering rule from April


The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission will on April 3, 2018 commence the enforcement of its recently unveiled Meter Asset Provider Regulations, 2018, a policy that seeks to bridge the widening metering gap in the electricity supply industry.

Google pulls down 3.2b violating adverts, pays publishers $12.6 billion


Search giant, Google pulled down 3.2 billion adverts that violated its advertising and publishers policies in 2017, in Nigeria and other part of the world. The firm said it paid publishers $12.6 billion in the year under review.

According to Google, that was more than 100 bad adverts per second! By this move, the technology company said it was able to block the majority of bad adverts experiences, like malvertising and phishing scams, before the scams impacted people. Google said it took specific actions against violating adverts involved in scraping; tabloid cloaking; malicious activity; malware and trick to click formats.

A coalition of Muslim organizations, yesterday staged a protest at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, over the decision of House of Representatives Committee on Justice and Judiciary to cancel a public hearing on the hijab controversy between the Nigerian Law School and Miss Amasa Firdus, the Law School graduate who was sent out of the call to bar ceremony in December last year because she refused to take off her Hijab.

The House committee cancelled the public hearing following an injunction it received from a high court directing it to stay action.

The public hearing, which was scheduled to hold  at Room 236 of the House of Representatives Wing, was cancelled immediately after the Chairman of the Committee, Rasak Atunwa, announced that the Committee had received an interlocutory injunction from a High Court restraining it from proceeding with the hearing.

Troops of 3 Division Garrison Jos Plateau State arrested 7 suspects and recovered weapons in the clash between Miango community and herdsmen at Rafiki Village on Wednesday 14 March 2018. The troops responded to distress calls to the clash reported by locals.

As troops moved in to settle the dispute, the herdsmen opened fire on troops convoy. 2 soldiers paid the supreme price. 7 suspects were arrested in connection with the clashes. While conducting a search, troops discovered 23 dead bodies at Mararaba Dare shortly before Rafiki Village and many civilians were wounded.
