The Tin Can Island Command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) Tuesday uncovered a container suspected to contain yet another cache of arms imported from Turkey.

This is coming barely a week after the command intercepted a 20-foot container laden with 1,100 pump action rifles.

Man stabs self, jumps into well in Kano


A-40 year-old man, Balarabe Adamu, stabbed himself and jumped into a well on Tuesday at Rijiyar Zaki Quarters of Ungogo Local Government, Kano, official reports.

Alhaji Mustafa Rilwan, Director of Kano State Fire Service, said that the man was rescued from the well before he later died at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano.

A businessman, Moses Ojiekomhan, yesterday told an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, that he caught his wife, Joy, in bed with his driver Emeka Osuh, at their Lagos home.

Ojiekomhan, the Managing Director of Legend Logistics and Integrated Concept Limited, Ikeja, stated this during Joy’s arraignment on a two count-charge of conspiracy and stealing.

Joy pleaded not guilty.

The mother of two, through her counsel Mr. J. Uwabuche, accused Ojiekomhan of abducting their 18-month-old baby.

According to the police, in a charge marked G38/2017, last June 30 around 11:30am, Joy, 37, conspired with Osuh, who is now at large, to steal N1,136,400 belonging to Legend Logistics and Integrated Concept.

According to prosecuting counsel, Mr. E. I. Onine, the alleged offences are contrary to and punishable under Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Uwabuche, who urged the court to admit Joy to bail on liberal terms, said the matter was between husband and wife, and that reconciliation was ongoing between their family members.

Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima, says the crisis created by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB is bigger than the one created by the internationally recognized terrorist group, Boko Haram. 

According to the Nation, Governor Shettima said this when himself and some Northern state governors paid the Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha a visit in Owerri, the state capital yesterday September 19th. The visit was to sue for peace following the recent clash between the military and IPOB members that degenerated into the attack of some Hausas and burning down of some mosques in the South East and South South.

A monument to Mikhail Kalashnikov, the designer of the prolific assault rifle that bears his name, has been unveiled in Moscow. Kalashnikov died in 2013 aged 94 in the city of Izhevsk where he lived. 

He was the creator of the AK-47 assault rifle, the world’s most popular firearm. An estimated 100 million guns are spread worldwide. Kalashnikov came up with the idea of inventing a new automatic rifle that could work in all conditions after becoming disgruntled by the Soviet weaponry as he recovered from an injury during WWII.

A new study has said Lagos, Nigeria is one of the most stressful cities in the world.
500 locations were taken into cognizance in the study conducted by UK-based drycleaning and laundry service Zipjet.
Lagos was ranked third in a research that revealed the world’s most and least stressful cities of 2017.

Fayose said that it is unfortunate that the Information Minister has been misinforming the nation, saying “more than 20 months after he claimed that 55 Nigerians stole over N1.34 trillion from the country’s treasury from 2006 to 2013, Lai Mohammed is yet to tell Nigerians who the 55 people are.”

Native Doctor Pays N200k To Get Man Killed In Enugu


Enugu Police Command has arrested a native doctor, Akor, who allegedly paid N200,000 to another man, Idoko of Ifuroka Amala in Udenu Local Government Area, of the state, to kill one Onyemaechi Eze on July 5.

It was gathered that the native doctor paid the suspect N200,000 to kill the victim. The suspect, it was gathered, after committing the murder in his community, fled to an unknown destination, but was later arrested on September 16, at Inyi in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, where he was hiding.

Barman, friend jailed 25 years for manslaughter


Justice Kudirat Jose of a Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, on Tuesday sentenced a barman, Marvelous Chibueze, and his friend, David Oladimeji, to 25 years’ imprisonment for killing one Peter Madueke.

It was learnt that Madueke was stabbed with a broken bottle in the neck.

The incident was said to have happened on January 27, 2015, at Love Garden Hotel in Ikotun Egbe, Lagos State.

The wife of a private security firm owner, Gladys Kelikuma, has accused the police of being behind the murder of her husband, Ernest Kelikuma.

Sixty-year-old Kelikuma, a father of 10 children and a native of Ewechi-Onicha-Ukwuani in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State, was allegedly murdered after he received a call from an investigating police officer over the arrest of an armed robber by his private security outfit.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Lotteries Board, Seun Anibaba, has said operators of lotteries in the state must pay winnings within 48 hours.

Anibaba said where the rule was violated, residents could contact the board for redress.
The lottery boss, who spoke in a statement on Monday, said the agency usually sanctioned operators who violated the rules to ensure compliance with regulations.

Suspected cult members have shot Mr. Stanley Mbanefo, a final year student of the Department of Geography, University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The incident was said to have taken place at the university community of Idak Okpo, Uyo, around 10.47pm on Monday.

Punch learnt that the hoodlums, about five in number, invaded the community and shot the victim at a close range while he was trying to escape from a shop.

I Will Not Dethrone Kanu's Father - Governor of Abia State

A journalist from north-eastern Nigeria has won the third BBC World News Komla Dumor Award. Amina Yuguda is a news presenter on local network Gotel Television, where she has reported on high-profile news stories, including the Boko Haram insurgency.

She will start a three-month placement at the BBC in London in September. The award was created to honour Komla Dumor, a presenter for BBC World News, who died suddenly aged 41 in 2014. Ms Yuguda said her win was a "huge honour".

Court to hear state’s appeal against Pistorius in November


South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal will hear the state’s appeal against the six-year murder sentence handed to Paralympic gold medallist Oscar Pistorius on Nov. 3, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said on Tuesday.

The state will argue that six years in jail is too lenient a sentence for the murder by Pistorius of Reeva Steenkamp, his girlfriend, in 2013.

Japan PM Abe mulls snap election amid North Korea crisis


Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, is considering calling a snap election amid the North Korean nuclear crisis, local media reported on Tuesday, citing his party’s top official.

The premier also told Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Secretary General, Toshihiro Nikai, on Monday that he would decide on the date of the election after returning from the UN General Assembly later this week, the Kyodo News agency reported.
