A Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, on Tuesday dissolved an eight-year-old marriage between, Akibu Oyewole and his wife, Omolara over threat to life.

The President of the court, Mr Ademola Odunade, in his judgment, awarded custody of the two children to Omolara and directed Akibu to pay a monthly feeding allowance of N8,000 for the upkeep of the children.

Two homes met fatal ends in the Gboko area of Benue State, and Oto-Awori area of Lagos State, on Sunday, after two spouses took the law into their own hands to protest against their partners’ alleged acts of infidelity.

In the Adekaa community, Gboko, 33-year-old Joshua Terkaa-Uhir, allegedly stabbed his wife, Lucy, to death with an axe after accusing the mother of two of extramarital affairs.

Fake beggar who makes more money than workers say makes N8,000 daily


A fake beggar, Abdullahi Abbas, who was apprehended in Ikorodu area of Lagos State yesterday, told a mob that he makes between N5,500 and N8,000 daily.

Abdullahi, 37, usually disguised as a visually impaired beggar, led by a 12-year-old boy (names withheld) begging for alms at First Gate and Odogunyan area of Ikorodu.

Luck, however, ran out on them as a curious female resident, Adeoye Baliks, who engaged the pair in a conversation, discovered the ruse. Abdullahi and his aid were said to be well patronised in the axis until the curious resident raised the alarm.

A mobile policeman has allegedly shot dead a 34-year-old man, Fred Igueriede, during a burial at Emede, in the Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Domestic airlines bleed as expatriates pocket N40bn annually


Despite struggling to survive the vagaries of recession, domestic airlines and charter operators are currently spending about N40 billion annually to pay expatriate pilots and engineers working in the nation’s aviation industry.
But there are fears among stakeholders that this huge wage bill beside robbing qualified Nigerian pilots and engineers of gainful employment, is also straining the purses of the debt-ridden local operators and may therefore not be sustainable. Investigations reveal that most operators are often  compelled to employ expatriates as a pre-leasing conditionality from the foreign lessors.

A 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted twice, by two different men, on a train as she made her way home from Boardmasters music festival.
