Today, Google announced its support for a Digital Journalism initiative that will see 6 000 African journalists trained in data journalism skills by the end of February 2018. Google News Lab and the World Bank are working with Code For Africa to empower journalists in Africa by giving them the necessary support to better understand the Web and how to use the tools available to them online.

Man wanted for chopping off daughter’s finger over haircut in Ogun State

For chopping off his 14-year-old daughter’s finger because she failed to cut her hair after he gave her N100 for that, the Ogun State Police Command have declared the weird father wanted.
The nongovernmental group, Child Protection Network,  which reported the case to police, claimed unnamed child was preparing for her junior secondary school certificate examination when she was attacked by her father, Musa Olayinka, in the incident that happened at  Ijebu-Ode town of Ogun State.

Siblings Drag Bishop, Lawyer To Court Over Father’s Will

The head of the late Chief A.O. Ezeoke’s family, Dr Sylvester Ezeoke, has dragged the Bishop of Awka Diocese in Anambra State, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, to court over his father’s will.

 He alleged that the bishop, as a principal executor of his father’s will, was playing a game suggestive that he did not want to divest his father’s property to the beneficiaries.

2 Church Goers Gang-Rape Teenage Girl During Fellowship

Two friends  Samuel Oriko and Joseph Bassey  who allegedly lured a teenage girl to the back of a church during fellowship and gang-raped her, were hauled up before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The accused Oriko, 25, and Bassey, 30 both unemployed, reside in Ogba in Ikeja area of Lagos.

The duo is being tried for conspiracy and gang rape. The accused, according to the Prosecutor, Sgt. Raphael Donny, committed the offences on May 23 at the back of Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Ogba.

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of slain Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, has been released from prison, according to fighters who control the facility.

A statement from the Abu Bakr al-Siddiq Battalion, a militia which controls Zintan, a mountainous region southwest of the capital Tripoli, said Saif al-Islam was released late on Saturday.
