Married boxer robbed of his $40K watch while in a hotel room with scantily-clad women


A Mexican boxer, Julio César Chávez Jr., was allegedly robbed of his $40,000 watch while he 'celebrated' losing a match against Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas. The married boxer took to his hotel room soon after the loss to party with scantily clad women until the early hours of the morning but by the time the party was over, Julio was missing a few of his belongings.

An Ota Magistrates' Court has sentenced a 32-year-old man, Lukman Yaya, to 25 months’ imprisonment for impersonation and stealing.

The senior magistrate, Mr S. O.Banwo, in his ruling did not give the convict any option of fine. Yaya, whose address was not disclosed in court, pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of impersonation and stealing.

Banks post N61bn extra profit despite recession in 2016


Despite the economic headwinds that slowed down growth in country, banks quoted in the Nigerian Stock Exchange posted a cumulative N504bn profits in 2016, an increase of N61.3bn ( equivalent to 13.8 per cent) over the N443bn recorded  in 2015.

Daily Trust analysis of financial statements of 16 banks with the exception of Skye Bank Plc, whose full year 2016 financial statement is still being expected at the NSE, shows that the cumulative gross earning (revenue) of the banks grew from N3.6tr to N3.7tr.  The banks recorded an increase in earnings of N88.3bn, representing a 2.4 per cent growth.

Malaysian authorities said Monday that they have seized 330 exotic tortoises from Madagascar worth 1.2 million ringgit ($276,721), in the latest heist of illegal wildlife and animal parts being smuggled into the country.
Deputy customs director Abdull Wahid Sulong said that 325 Indian Star tortoises and five Ploughshare tortoises were packed into five boxes and labeled as stones. He said the live tortoises, usually kept as pets, arrived via Etihad Airways from Antanaviro Airport in Madagascar on Sunday.

A Tennessee man, Jared McLemore, 33, died after setting himself on fire on Facebook Live. Police said they arrived at Murphy's Bar in Midtown Memphis on Saturday night and discovered the man severely burned. The man reportedly doused himself in kerosene while recording live, lit himself with a lighter in his hand and then ran into the bar.
