Lions escape from South Africa’s national park

Armed South African wildlife rangers and police scoured farmland around a small town near the Mozambican border on Tuesday for five lions that escaped from the country’s main national park.
The animals broke free from the Kruger park on Monday morning close to Komatipoort, a community of about 5,000 people.
“We believe it is five lions, and they are in the sugar cane fields near the border with Mozambique,” said park spokesman, Reynold Thakuli.

Justice Angela Otaruku granted the request of the prosecuting counsel,  Mr. Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN , to play the video as evidence of Lawan collecting the said bribe from Otedola.

Former bank worker arraigned for stealing N40 million from customers’ account


A former staff of Fidelity Bank PLC, Friday Yahaya, was on Monday arraigned before Justice Hakeem Oshodi of the Lagos State High Court for stealing N40 million in total from several customers of the bank.
Mr. Yahaya was arraigned on a 16- count charge bordering on stealing, impersonation and forgery.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The minister said this at the launch of the 2017 regional economic outlook for ‎Sub-Saharan Africa by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Man pleads guilty to raping three minors


A 52-year-old man, John Udensi, on Tuesday pleaded guilty to raping three minors, aged 10, 11 and 13.
Udensi, a resident of Angwan-Boarder, Tudun Wada in Jos, is standing trial on a three-count charge of rape, before a Jos High Court.

Reverend sister docked for allegedly defrauding students of N8.25 million exam fees


A Reverend Sister and Principal of School of Nursing, Umulogho in Imo, Eberechukwu Nwachukwu, was on Tuesday arraigned in Owerri for allegedly defrauding 25 students of N8.25 million.
Ms. Nwachukwu is facing a nine-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretences and threat to life at an Obowo Magistrates’ Court.

A 25-year-old fashion designer, Jamiu Ayoade, has been shot dead by a trigger-happy police officer in Lagos, according to dependable sources.
The sources told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the police officer, who is believed to be a senior officer at Ijeshatedo Divisional Police Headquarters (name withheld) allegedly shot and killed Ayoade on Sunday evening in the area.

The Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos has refused to grant Mrs. Patience Jonathan’s plea to unfreeze her accounts holding $15.591 million, SaharaReporters reports.

Justice Mohammed Idris had ordered parties to file pleas concerning ownership of the accounts. He, however, described the issues raised by the defendants as “baseless.”

“The issues formulated by all the defendants are baseless. They go to no issue and will be ignored by the court,” the judge said.

Some houses in South Africa were set ablaze on Monday as racial tension flared in a town of Coligny North west province after a court granted bail to two white farmers who were accused of killing a teenage black boy.
Pieter Doorewaard, 26, and Phillip Schutte, 34, are accused of killing Matlhomola Jonas Mosweu, 16, on April 20.
Doorewaard and Schutte are accused of throwing the teenager off a moving vehicle after catching him stealing sunflowers.

Boyfriend stabs his girlfriend to death in hotel room


An unidentified 26-year-old man has reportedly stabbed his 18-year-old girlfriend, identified as Miss Faith Pius in a hotel room in Yenagoa. The man ran away when the wailing of the victim attracted the attention of other guests in the guest house who came to her rescue.


The guest house is located at Biogbolo area of Yenagoa.

Anthony Enahoro’s eldest son, Kenneth Enahoro dies at 63


Mr. Kenneth Enahoro, the eldest  son of late Chief Anthony Enahoro, is dead. He died on Sunday at the age of 63. His immediate younger brother, Mr. Eugene Enahoro confirmed the death, saying that his elder brother lived a fulfilled life, adding that he suspected no foul play in his death.


He said, "When a man passes on, you do not suspect any foul play. You do not begin to talk about whether he was sick or not but as long he is aged, God has called him. He survived long enough to bury his father and he is survived by two children.
