Pure Water Seller Slashes Friend's Face For Calling Her Promiscous


A 43-year-old woman, Modinat Jide, on Thursday appeared before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, charged with slashing her friend’s face with a blade.

The accused, who hawks sachet water, was arraigned on a charge of unlawful assault, but pleaded not guilty.

A forty-year-old man, Isiya Inusa, on Thursday, confessed that he killed an okada rider because of his inability to pay the N100 fare.

Isiya, who spoke in Hausa at the headquarters of Katsina State Police Command where he was paraded, said he attacked the rider along Kankara-Kabuki Road, in Katsina.

About 50 shops were in the early hours of Thursday razed by fire in a community Market at Gwargwaje in Zaria local government area of Kaduna State.
It was gathered that the inferno started between 2.30 and 3am in the morning.
An eye witness and one of the victims, Mallam Musa Urwatu, explained that property worth millions of Naira were lost to the inferno without any loss of life.

Facebook developing keyboardless typing directly from human brain


Facebook is working to create a data input method that doesn’t rely on a keyboard, but instead allows the user to type directly from the brain, the company said at its two-day developers conference in San Jose, California.

“In a few years’ time we expect to demonstrate a real-time silent speech system capable of delivering 100 words per minute,” or about five-times faster than a person can type with a smartphone, said vice president of engineering Regina Dugan on the second day of the conference.

Two Teenagers die in hotel's swimming pool in Edo


Two teenagers have reportedly died in a swimming pool belonging to a hotel in Okhoro, in the Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. The victims were identified as Ikponmwosa Isibor, 17, and 16-year-old Emmanuel Abuzu.

It was learnt that the deceased, who were friends, had paid to use the swimming pool before they reportedly drowned at about 4pm on Saturday.

Dangote Oil Refining Company Limited has said the installation of equipment for the crude oil refinery being built in Lagos will begin this month .
The Head , Quality Assurance/ Quality Compliance and Construction, DORC , Mr . Rama Putta , told our correspondent , who visited the site of the plant , that the 650, 000-barrels – per -day refinery would come on stream by September 2019.
According to him , the basic engineering work has reached 98 per cent completion; the detailed engineering , 90 per cent; 3 D modelling, 80 per cent; long lead items ordering , 100 per cent ; bulk plates ordering , 90 per cent ; equipment and bulk items, 50 per cent ; and construction activities , 25 per cent.

Vigilantes beat man to death with charms


A 28-year-old businessman, Tayo Olatunbosun, has been allegedly killed by two members of Vigilante Service of Nigeria (VSN) at Adiyan, a community in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.

 The vigilantes, identified as Ismaila Jimoh and Hassan Olatunde, have been arrested by the police. The suspects were said to have nabbed Olatunbosun, who was selling phones and laptops, in the Adiyan area on Saturday for allegedly stealing a hair dryer.

$43 million cash discovered by EFCC meant for purchase of arms


As controversy over the $43 million discovered by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos continues, Nigerian Times investigation has revealed that the money actually belongs to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
The money, Nigerian Times checks with top intelligence sources reveal, was warehoused at the NIA safe house for the purpose of purchasing weapons for the Nigerian military through back channels after the American government had blocked official avenues for weapons purchase by the Nigerian government under former president Goodluck Jonathan. It was also meant to be used in carrying out other clandestine operations on behalf of the Nigerian government.

Controversial Nigerian pastor Tim Omotoso of the Jesus Dominion International Church in Durban, is being sought by the Hawks for allegedly abusing young girls at his Umhlanga house.
According to an expose by SABC 3’s Special Assignment on Monday, he allegedly handpicked the girls and instructed them to live in his house where they were forced to have unprotected sex with him.

Herdsman kills farmer over grazing land


A Federal High Court sitting in Gwagwalada has remanded a 41-year-old herdsman, Ibrahim Yahaya, for allegedly killing a farmer,  identified simply as Mohammed. He reportedly  challenged the herdsman over grazing his cattle on his farm.


The prosecutor, Adeniyi Oyeyemi, told the court that the event which led to the death of the deceased occurred on the December 24, 2016 at about 2:00p.m. in Kuje Area Council, Abuja.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says 66 percent of Nigeria’s tax revenues is spent on servicing debts, calling on the country to raise taxes.
Speaking at the IMF Fiscal Monitor briefing in Washington on Wednesday, Vitor Gaspar, director of the fund’s Fiscal Affairs department, said he is happy the Nigerian government now sees taxation as a path to development.

A 25-year-old university student in Kenya, Abdulkarim Njoroge, has been arrested for allegedly killing his lover, Irene Kananu and hiding her corpse in a freezer in his house.

The Star reports that Njoroge strangled Kananu in his house in Mtwapa region in Mombasa following an argument when she wanted to dump him for getting another woman pregnant.

Njoroge was arrested on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, two weeks after the family of the deceased, an HR officer with chemical giant Henkel in Industrial Area, declared her missing on March 31.
