Mercy Johnson gets political appointment


Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, has been appointed as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, on entertainment, arts and culture.

The mother of three was appointed along with 53 other Senior Special Assistants to the governor into various offices in the administration.

Governor Orders Herdsmen Out Of His State After Six Killed In Fresh Attack


Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue state, has given Fulani herdsmen in Tombo-Mbalagh, Buruku local government area of the state, a two-day ultimatum to leave the area.

Ortom gave the order while ascertaining the damage which herdsmen inflicted on the community.

His visit to the place on Monday, followed attacks carried out by the herdsmen over the weekend.

Court sentenced man to 4 years of strokes for stealing sandals


35-year-old driver, ‎Mammuda Abubakar has been sentenced  to four strokes of the cane for stealing a pair of sandals  by a  Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday on Tuesday
The convict, who pleaded guilty, begged the court to have mercy on him, saying he stole the sandals because of hunger.‎

Secondary School in Bauchi Shut Down After Students Held Wedding Ceremonies Among Themselves

The Bauchi State government, at the weekend, closed the Sa’adu Zungur Model Primary and Secondary School in Bauchi, the state capital, over illegal marriages among senior students in the school.

The closure order, which also affected the primary section of the school, it was gathered, was given on Friday by the state deputy governor, Nuhu Gidado, who doubles as the Commissioner for Education, following a report received by the government on the illegal marriages among the students.

A teenage kickboxing champion has died after collapsing towards the end of a national competition.
Scott Marsden, known as Scotty, needed urgent medical attention during an English title fight at Leeds Martial Arts college in West Yorkshire on Saturday.

One Dead As Herdsmen And Farmers Clash In Abia


ONE person has been confirmed dead in Umuobasiukwu in Ozuitem, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State during a clash between herdsmen and farmers on Sunday. Idegwu Chibueze, 30, has been sentenced to three years in prison for beating Ukpa Joseph, 34, last year, after an
argument over an outstanding debt. Chibueze was charged with “intentional violence with aggravating circumstances.

 At about 10:30pm on October 30, 2016, Chibueze and the victim argued about a $500 loan Joseph had not paid back. Chibueze then took a piece of steel and struck Joseph repeatedly until he sustained a broken right collarbone.

A man is facing jail after ‘viciously’ raping of an 81-year-old woman minutes after he sat next to her on a bus. 

Anthony Roberts, 41, followed his victim after she got off at her stop and then dragged her into a secluded area before attacking her. 
He stripped her and threatened her, claiming he had a knife and would kill her if he made noise.
