Southampton stand firm over Van Dijk

According to a report in The Sun the Southampton board have no need to sell anyone and are looking to strengthen their squad.
The message from St Mary’s won’t be welcomed by Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal who have all been strongly linked with the Dutch defender.

It was thought that anything over £50m would bring Saints to the negotiating table with that figure paid last summer to take John Stones from Everton to Manchester City.
Southampton have sold virtually a full team of players over the last four seasons and have reinvested that money in new signings and in their highly rated youth policy.
Club chairman Ralph Krueger has now gone on record saying that they would knock back a £60m bid which could lead to an awkward situation where they are left with a player who knows that he could be playing Champions League football at Chelsea on double the wages but is on a long term deal at St Mary’s.
