Notorious kidnappers terrorizing Osun, Ondo arrested

Two of the notorious kidnappers who have been terrorizing Osun State – Akin Nureni, Sunday David, Akeem Ibitoye and Teslim Ibitoye – have been arrested.
The two were arrested by the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari.

The arrest by the IRT on April 25, 2017 of Nureni, 40; and Ibitoye, 38; David, 35; and Ibitoye followed several days of unrelenting follow up and technical intelligence support from the Technical Intelligence Unit.
Nureni was the first to be arrested,
He confessed to the kidnapping of Taiwo Ahmed, 8, who resides at 3, Alake Street, Ayetoro Estate, Osogbo in Osun State.
He then led the IRT to their hideout, where the gang members opened fire on the operatives, who returned fire and arrested three of them with bullet wounds.
Akeem Ibitoye died during the shootout.
One Barreta pistol with seven live and four expended ammunitions; two single barrel shot guns with 16 live and nine expended cartridges; facial mask; victims’ jewelries and several charms were recovered in the Hideout.
One of the IRT operatives, Sergeant Sani Mohammed sustained bullet wounds on his left leg.
Mohammed has since been treated and discharged.
The suspects confessed to several kidnappings in Osun and Ondo States, including the recent blocking of Basirat Ahmed, who was inside her Honda Pilot Jeep in Dada Estate area of Osogbo on April 11, 2017.
It was in the process they kidnapped Taiwo Ahmed, who they took to their hideout in the bush and demanded for N10 million ransom from the parents.
The ransom was paid before the girl’s release.
The Samsung phone the kidnappers used for the ransom negotiations was recovered from the kidnappers,
Teslim and David are said to be receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Center, Gwagwalada, Abuja for the bullets wounds sustained during gun battle with the Police.
It was gathered that serious effort to arrest the remaining kidnappers is being made.
