Arsenal chief wants Thierry Henry to replace Arsene Wenger

Arsenal director Josh Kroenke is reportedly keen to have Thierry Henry included among the main list of candidates to replace Arsene Wenger should the current manager step down this summer.

The long-serving Frenchman is yet to sign a new contract at the Emirates Stadium as his deal is set to end at the end of this season, and the club already seem to be forming a list of potential replacements.

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has emerged as a leading candidate according to sources in both the UK and Italy, but Kroenke is apparently pushing for Henry to make the step up.

The Gunners chief, son of majority shareholder Stan Kroenke, has allegedly met with Henry to discuss his plans for management in the future, and is said to have been hugely impressed by him.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the American will do his best to ensure the former Arsenal striker is among the list of candidates for the job, as he feels he could emulate Zindedine Zidane’s rise at Real Madrid.

Henry, 39, is currently working as assistant manager to Roberto Martinez with the Belgian national team, but has previously said he couldn’t turn down the chance to manage his old club one day.

The former France international spent over eight years with Arsenal during his playing days across two spells, and is their all-time leading scorer with 228 goals for the north Londoners.
