Nigeria’s men’s football team made an extraordinary start to their Rio 2016 Olympic campaign, beating Japan 5-4 in Manaus on Thursday just hours after landing in Brazil following a travel mix-up.
The team was stranded in Atlanta for days amid a bizarre saga that saw flights canceled because of missed payments and because a plane was too small, before eventually taking off on the morning of the game.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 42-year-old Islamic cleric, Rasheed Ayuba, for alleged car theft. 


Ayuba, who hails from Igbesa, Ogun State, was apprehended along with a transporter in Ibadan, Oyo State, Falade Igbekele, who reportedly bought six of the stolen cars. 

Archbishop Chukwuma Blasts Governor Okorocha


The Archbishop of the Enugu Province, Anglican Communion, the Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, Thursday, blasted Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha over his persistent attacks on the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.


Okorocha, who is the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governors’ Forum, has vowed to remove Ekweremadu and replace him with the Senator elect from Imo State.

Nigerian Military Responds to the Appointment of New Boko Haram Leader


The Defence Headquarters (DHQ), says the announcement of a new Boko Haram leader is irrelevant and inconsequential to the military’s operation in the north east.

This was contained in a parley with the Director of Defence Information, DHQ, Rabe Abubakar by the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN on Wednesday following the announcement of the leader of the terrorist sect, Abu Musab al-Barnawi.

Nigerian football is in a state of shock after an astonishing 26 players failed age tests carried out ahead of an Under-17 African Cup of Nations qualifier, according to a report.

Africanfootball.com reports that a mandatory MRI screening carried out on 60 eligible players showed almost half were ineligible to play.

An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday remanded a university student, Mabel Bassey, in prison for bathing her neighbour with hot water and killing him.

Bassey is to be remanded at Ikoyi Prisons pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions.
